April 10,2014. Mid-South NSA Base, Millington, TN. The horns, nana, the horns

Our friends Mike and Linda lived on Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs before he recently retired from the military. Their granddaughter, Athena, would visit from time to time and whenever the bugle would sound, as it does at military installations a number of times during the day, she would call to Linda, "the horns, nana, the horns".
A month ago today, we were at the Naval Sub Base in King's Bay, GA. As we prepared to leave the base, the bugle sounded over the loudspeaker, and shortly thereafter, the National Anthem played. The people in the RV park and Navy personnel on the training field stood at attention in respect to our colors and the nation they stand for. Last evening the bugle sounded as the colors were taken down and this morning the bugle sounded before the Anthem played on this Navy installation. It was good to stand at attention, think of all we have as Americans, how God has blessed us and the freedom we have to worship openly, live without fear and know that wherever the horns are sounded there are military personnel dedicated to seeing that these rights are preserved.
Yet as we travel, we are impressed by the number of people who fear that we as Christians are facing an erosion of our freedoms, a retreat from the principles upon which this country was founded and potential persecution for practicing our faith. We seem to be facing more situations where people want to be allowed to exercise their rights, but deny us the right to exercise ours. I could probably write a long, long dissertation on the subject, but I just want to encourage each of us to stand firm on what we believe, be encouraged by movies like Ring The Bell, God's Not Dead and Heaven Is For Real, but mostly by the Truth of the Scriptures and the reality of Jesus Christ in our life. As our home church in Fort Collins begins a three day fasting and prayer event, let's all take time to pray for growth in our faith, our country and it's return to faith and our churches and their reliance on faith. Help us Lord to "listen to the horns", be resolved to stand up for our country as it was created to be and our God and who He created us to be. As I've written before, we need to make 2 Chronicles 7:14 an intentional prayer and a passage of Scripture to be read, memorized and lived out each moment in humility to our awesome and gracious God.
